iw Command Cheat Sheet

The iw command is a tool for configuring wireless devices. It's used for scanning networks, showing frequencies, and managing wireless device settings.


Show Wireless Devices

iw dev

Show Interface Details

iw dev wlan0 info

Scan Available Networks

sudo iw dev wlan0 scan

Show Supported Channels

iw list

Connect to a Network (manual)

iw dev wlan0 connect "SSID"

Disconnect from Network

iw dev wlan0 disconnect

Set Interface Type (e.g., monitor)

sudo iw dev wlan0 set type monitor

Notes

  • Requires root privileges for most actions.
  • Complements iwconfig, hostapd, and wpa_supplicant.
